CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s soccer team defeated Drexel 3-0 on Thursday night at Historic Riggs Field in a game that was delayed an hour and fifteen minutes due to weather and began at 8:15 p.m. With the win, the Tigers improve to 6-0-1 and the Dragons fall to 1-5.
Sophomore Gabby Byorth scored her first goal of the season at the 24:15 mark to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead. Freshman Shannon Horgan’s cross was deflected by Drexel goalkeeper Keslie Fye and sent right out to the feet of the sophomore defender Byorth who scored from 15 yards out.
With four minutes left in the game, sophomore Emily Byorth was fouled outside the box, resulting in a free kick for the Tigers. On the free kick, Sophomore Claire Wagner netted her first goal of the year into the top left corner to put the Tigers up 2-0. With 28 seconds remaining, Sophomore Paige Reckert got in on the scoring action off a cross from Horgan to extend the lead to 3-0. The goal was the second of the year for Reckert.
The Tigers host Wofford Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field in the last nonconference match of the year, before starting ACC play on Sept. 19 at Virginia Tech.
