Tigers Dominate Penn State to Close Out Liberty Hidden Dual

LYNCHBURG, Va. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team dominated on the final day of the Liberty Hidden Dual, picking up three doubles wins and four singles wins against Penn State.

“Coke (Jorge Plans Gonzalez) and Matt had a fantastic weekend of tennis,” said Head Coach Robbie Weiss. “They made some big strides with their games and mental toughness. I’m super proud of them. The weekend revealed some positives but also some areas we must continue to improve on. It was nice to get a bunch of wins today against Penn State and finish up the weekend on a positive note. As always, can’t wait to get back to Clemson and get to work.”

All three doubles pairs played excellent tennis, with Spencer Whitaker and Max Smith dominating 6-1 on Court 1 while Plans Gonzalez and Ethan Silva defeated Penn State’s Bossem/Bhatanger in a tight 7-6 win. Matt Pitts and Trey Stinchcomb secured the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory over Saadi/Nemani.

Plans Gonzalez and M. Pitts were victorious in all three singles matches this weekend. Plans Gonzalez earned a quick 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 1 while Pitts defeated Bossem 6-4, 7-6.
