Tigers Defeat Two Ranked Doubles Opponents in 5-2 Loss to No. 21 Gamecocks

CLEMSON, S.C. —  The Tigers (4-2, 0-0 ACC) earned ranked wins on Court 1 and Court 2 to win the doubles point, but fell short against No. 21 South Carolina (3-2, 0-0 SEC), 5-2, for their second loss of the season. 

Teodor Guisca and Spencer Whitaker defeated No. 59 Raphael Lambling and Phillip Jordan by a score of 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Moments later, Jacob Jahn and Ryuhei Azuma secured the doubles point for Clemson on Court 1 when they defeated the No. 44 Daniel Rodrigues and Connor Thomson, 6-4. In singles, Azuma won line three, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, to advance to 6-0 in singles on the season. 

Notes:

  • Jacob Jahn and Ryuhei Azuma advance to 2-1 on the season against ranked opponents in doubles and 5-1 overall
  • Spencer Whitaker and Teodor Guisca earn their first ranked win as a doubles pair and remain undefeated (4-0)
  • Ryuhei Azuma, who remains unbeaten, earns his sixth straight victory in singles
  • The Tigers fall to South Carolina for the sixth consecutive matchup
