Tigers Defeat Boston College, 5-2, In Saturday Women’s Tennis Action

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over Boston College on Saturday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The win was the Tigers’ sixth straight and improved their record to 10-4 overall with a 3-1 mark against ACC opponents. The Eagles dropped to 6-6 overall and 0-4 in conference with the loss.

Clemson continued its success in doubles play, claiming all three match-ups for the fifth time this season. Ninth-ranked Carol Salge and Federica van Adrichem defeated Dasha Cherkasov and Lana Krasnopolsky at flight one, 8-5, while Daniela Alvarez and Alexandra Luc, ranked #49, blanked Lindsey Nash and Sarah Svoboda at flight two, 8-0, for their ninth win of the season. In the flight three contest, Clemson’s Maria Brito and Marie Scriba won an 8-4 decision over Gia Nafarrete and Szilvia Szegedi.

After taking a 1-0 lead into singles play, the Tigers won four matches to post the victory. Salge defeated Cherkasov at flight two by a score of 6-2, 6-3, and Luc won over Svoboda by a 7-6(7-2), 7-5 margin in the flight four match-up. Kathi Gerber posted a 6-4, 6-4 win against Nafarret at flight five, while Scriba picked up her first career singles victory by defeating Nash, 6-1, 6-2, at the flight six position.

At the top singles slot, van Adrichem fell to Szegedi, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, while Krasnopolsky won over Brito at flight three, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Clemson will play host to 31st-ranked Maryland on Sunday, Mar. 26 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers and Terps are scheduled to begin play at 12:00 PM.
