Tigers Complete First Day of Southern Intercollegiate Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – The Clemson Tigers officially opened their fall season and completed the first day of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Six Tigers secured singles victories and four tabbed wins in doubles.

“Glad to be back at it with our guys competing at a great event with great competition,” Head Coach Brandon Wagner said. “Looking forward to these guys taking advantage of the opportunities they have tomorrow and build off of today.”

In doubles, the dynamic-duo of Noa Vukadin and Max Smith won their match 6-4 against in-state rival South Carolina’s Max Stenzer and Sean Daryabeigi. The Tiger pairing was ranked No. 5 in the ITA Preseason Rankings.

Three additional Tiger pairings won their doubles matches as Romain Gales and Wissam Abderrahman beat Mercer’s Nemanja Stefanovic and Marceau Fouilhoux, 6-4. Marko Mesarovic and Viktor Markov won their match, 6-3 against an Arizona State pairing and Kaetan Mehta and Matt Pitts beat a Georgia duo, 6-2.

In singles, six Tigers recorded wins as four secured their spot in the quarterfinal round and freshman Nathan Pitts is set to compete in the semifinal round. Abderrahman took down Georgia State’s Baran Soyler, 7-5, 6-2 while Max Damm defeated the Panther’s Hugo Nossler in the round of 16.

Additionally in the round of 16, Stewart Aronson, M. Pitts, and Smith all picked up wins as Aronson and M. Pitts won their sets in two and Smith won in three. N. Pitts defeated Georgia’s Parker Jacques, 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinal round to advance to the semifinals.
