Tigers Complete Comeback Over Demon Deacons

CLEMSON, S.C. – Despite dropping the first and facing set-point twice in game No. 2, the Clemson Volleyball team improved to 2-3 on the season with a four-set victory (22-25, 28-26, 25-20, 25-22) over Wake Forest in Jervey Gym Thursday evening. Four Clemson hitters in Camryn Hannah (15), Cate Long (14), Solei Thomas (12) and Colleen Finney (11) posted double-digit kills. As a team, Clemson registered a season-best hitting percentage of .283.

A pair of 5-0 runs for the Demon Deacons in the first plagued Clemson early on, but the Tigers dug their heels in late in the second after another Wake Forest late-set push. Four unanswered points by the Demon Deacons gave them set point, 25-24, but Alyssa Deloney, who hit .400 on the night with eight kills, and Mckenna Slavik (48 assists) teamed up for a block at the to break up the Wake run. The Demon Deacons took the lead again on the next play, but three straight Clemson kills sealed the set, 28-26, and evened the match, 1-1.

Anna Renwick, Slavik and Deloney combined for three aces in set No. 3, which was also highlighted by a 6-1 Clemson run to close the set with Deloney behind the line for three straight Tiger points. In the fourth, it was Slavik behind the service line that propelled Clemson to its second win of the season. The sophomore was behind the service line for seven of eight unanswered Clemson points in the middle of the set, which ultimately put the Tigers ahead, 15-11. From there, the two teams traded points as Clemson went on to win the fourth, 25-22, and match, 3-1.

Up next, Clemson (2-3, 2-3 ACC) closes out its fall slate as it hosts Wake Forest (0-5, 0-5 ACC) for Senior Day in Jervey Gym on Friday at 4 p.m. Friday’s contest is set to stream on ACCNX.
