Tigers Claim 2004 Clemson Invitational Track And Field Meet

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s track and field team tallied 258 points behind 13 regional qualifiers to capture the 2004 Clemson Invitational held Saturday at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. The University of Illinois took second place with 182 points, the University of Pittsburgh placed third with 92.5 points and Arkansas State accrued 83 points for fourth place. Appalachian State was fifth with 66 points, Florida A&M finished sixth with 24.5 points, Howard University scored 17 points for seventh place and East Tennessee State rounded out the field with 10 points.

On the track for the Tigers, Airese Currie and Airese Currie won the event with a regional qualifying time of 39.91, and the Tigers were fourth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:17.17.

George Kitchens was a regional qualifier in the long jump, claiming the event with a leap of 24’7″. Brent Hobbs placed third in the long jump with his mark of 22’8.5″. Ben Daniels was fourth in the triple jump with his mark of 47’7.25″. In the shot put, Ryan Hunter also scored for Clemson in the discus, finishing eighth with a mark of 141’1″. The Tigers took third through fifth in the hammer throw, as Ryan Hunter recorded a mark of 160’0″ to score for Clemson with an eighth-place finish.

Clemson returns to action on Apr. 10 as the Tigers travel to Athens, GA, for the Spec Towns Invitational.
