Tigers Blank SC State 5-0 Friday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team returned home to the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in style on Friday evening, defeating South Carolina State by a score of 5-0. The match was the Tigers’ first at home since Jan. 29, and the win brought their record to 7-6 on the season. The Bulldogs fell to 0-7 with the loss.

Pierre-Louis Dodens and Jacob Jahn opened doubles play with a 6-2 victory on Court 2, which brought their dual-match record to 6-1 on the season. Teodor Giusca and Matteo Vialmin clinched the doubles point for the Tigers, winning 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Simon Baudry was the first of four consecutive singles winners for the Tigers, as he defeated his Bulldog opponent 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Yizhou Liu followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on Court 2. Dodens clinched the team victory for Clemson, claiming a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Vialmin provided the final point and recorded his first career collegiate singles win, with a 6-3, 6-3 decision on Court 5.

OF NOTE

  • Freshman Matteo Vialmin saw his first-career collegiate tennis action on Friday, and finished the day with his first career collegiate singles and doubles wins.
  • Pierre-Louis Dodens and Jacob Jahn won their sixth dual doubles match of the season against the Bulldogs. The duo leads the team in dual doubles wins with a 6-1 record on the season.
  • Dodens improved to 7-4 in dual singles matches with his win on Friday, while Yizhou Liu improved to 7-3. The two players are tied for the team lead in dual singles wins.
  • Prior to Friday’s match, the Tigers were on the road for the entire month of February, which included a stretch of seven consecutive matches. The match was the team’s first at home since Jan. 29.

The Tigers return to action for their ACC home opener on Sunday, March 3 against Georgia Tech. First serve is set for 3 p.m. against the Yellow Jackets at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.
