CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (8-7, 2-5 ACC) suffered its first home loss this spring at the hands of No. 2 NC State (16-1, 4-0 ACC) by a 6-1 scoreline. The doubles pair of Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain picked up a ranked victory, along with Dani Medvedeva.
The doubles point was extremely contested, as Buyckx and DeSpain took care of the No. 25 pair in the country with haste by a final score of 6-1. Cristina Mayorova and Medvedeva took the No. 42 ranked team to a seven-point tiebreak, but were unable to come out on top.
In singles play, the Wolfpack did well to stave off the Tigers’ effort at a comeback. NC State clinched the match, but Medvedeva brought her match with No. 119 Nell Miller to a third-set 10-point tiebreak, and prevailed 10-6. Eleni Louka also played a tiebreak set on Court 2 against the No. 27 ranked player in the country, but came up just short.
Up next, the No. 62 Tigers return to Duckworth Family Tennis Facility on Sunday, March 20 to take on No. 21 Wake Forest in a battle of ranked ACC foes. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
