ANDERSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team lost a hard-fought battle, 4-3, to Miami on Sunday at the AU Tennis Center. With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 5-6 (1-3 ACC), while the Hurricanes improved to 5-3 (2-0 ACC).
The Tigers claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 1, in that order. Ally Miller-Krasilnikov and Tate Schroeder defeated the Hurricanes No. 2 doubles duo 6-2. Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Fernanda Navarro then clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 upset over 33rd-ranked Ana Madcur and Estela Perez-Somarriba at the top doubles position.
The Hurricanes got out to a 3-1 lead after opening singles play with wins on Courts 5, 6 and 2. Sydney Riley got a point back for the Tigers, defeating #114th-ranked Madcur, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set 6-1 at No. 1, 21st-ranked Leduc fought back against 23rd-ranked Somarriba in the second set, but ultimately fell 7-6(6) in the second-set tiebreak. Somarriba’s win clinched the team victory for Miami. Schroeder provided the final point for Clemson, defeating her Hurricane opponent, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 3 singles.
The Tigers host a doubleheader at home at the AU Tennis Center next Saturday, March 10. They face Charlotte at 11 a.m. and UNC Greensboro at 3 p.m.
