Tigers and 49ers Play to 1-1 Double Overtime Tie

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s soccer team tied Charlotte 1-1 in double overtime on Sunday night at Historic Riggs Field. With the tie, the first of Clemson’s young season, the Tigers move to to 5-0-1, and the 49ers move to 1-3-1.

Charlotte’s lone goal of the night was scored by freshman forward Martha Thomas only 6:43 into the game. The Tigers had many chances without a score until sophomore midfielder Catrina Atanda scored at the 86:42 mark off passes from goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan and defender Savannah Coiner to even the score. The goal was Atanda’s fourth of the year. The assist was the first of the sophomore keeper’s career.

Clemson ended the night with 35 shots to Charlotte’s five and 18 corners to Charlotte’s two. Charlotte goalkeeper Annika McHenry ended the night with 11 saves, a career high for the redshirt junior.

The Tigers return to action Thursday, Sept. 11 vs. Drexel at 7 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
