Tigers Advance to Second Round of ACC Tournament

CARY, N.C. –  The Clemson men’s tennis team (11-14, 1-11 ACC) started the ACC Tournament off strong, handily defeating Boston College (7-14, 0-12 ACC) 4-1 at the Cary Tennis Park. The Tigers dropped the doubles point but dominated in singles to take four matches in straight sets and clinch the victory.

With the win, Clemson advanced to the second round of the conference tournament for the second straight season. It will have an opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals for the second straight season on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against Florida State.

It was the Eagles who came out hot to start the match, taking the doubles point to jump out to a 1-0 lead. However, the doubles point is the only one that Boston College would notch.

Ryuhei Azuma continued his stellar play with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 victory on Court 1. Earlier this week, he earned the No. 93 ITA singles ranking. Trey Stinchcomb gave the Tigers a lead they would never relinquish with a 6-1, 6-3 win on Court 6. Spencer Whitaker followed that up by taking Court 3 in 6-3, 6-2 fashion.

Ultimately, Nini Dica clinched Clemson’s victory on Court 5, as he secured a 7-5, 6-4 win that sent his team to the second round.

Up next, the Tigers will face No. 5 seed Florida State in the second round of the ACC Tournament tomorrow, April 20 at 3:30 p.m. All action will take place at the Cary Tennis Park.
