Tiger Women’s Tennis Upset By #35 Baylor

Waco, TX – The 35th-ranked Baylor Bears defeated the #7 Clemson Tigers in women’s tennis action on Saturday afternoon, 4-0. The Tigers fall to 3-2 on the season while the Bears improve to 2-3. The match, held at the Baylor Tennis Center, was delayed 20 minutes due to rain. Two singles matches did not finish and no doubles matches were played because of the rain.

The Bears took matches at the number 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles positions for 4-0 lead that would become the final score of the weather-shortened contest. At No. 2, #92 Zuzana Cerna defeated #97 Daniela Alvarez by a score of 6-0, 6-1 while Klara Zrustova upset #88 Romy Farah in the No. 3 match-up, 6-2, 6-4. Clemson’s Ioana Paun fell to Iva Mihaylova, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 and the Bears’ Zuzana Krchnakova defeated Carol Salge by a score of 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 6 competition.

The match-up at the No. 1 singles position between #5 Julie Coin of Clemson and #41 Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor was called deep into the third set and play was also suspended in the No. 4 contest between the Tigers #114 Maria Brito and Daniella Covello.

Clemson travels to Fort Worth, TX next to face #19 Texas Christian University at 12:00 PM on Sunday.
