CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team will host Furman and Georgia State in a round-robin tournament on Saturday in Jervey Gymnasium as part of Solid Orange Weekend. The Tigers play Furman at 9:30 am and Georgia State at 12:30 pm, with the Panthers and Paladins squaring off at 11:00 am. Admission is free to the event.
Clemson has played two spring matches so far, a pair of three-set wins over Georgia Tech and Georgia on their respective home courts.
Coach Jolene Jordan Hoover has her full 2010 roster at her disposal, as well as early enrollee Kamryn Sherman, who has already had a strong spring from the setter position. Freshman signees Karis Watson (Rock Hill, SC) and Kristin Faust (Orlando, FL) will join the squad in the summer.
The tournament will close spring play for the Tigers, who are coming off an 18-13 season in 2010. Two-time All-ACC selection Sandra Adeleye will lead Clemson in her junior season, and 2010 preseason All-ACC selection Alexa Rand returns, as do 2010 ACC All-Freshman honorees Mo Simmons and Hannah Brenner.
The spring has allowed Hoover to work players around and test versatility, and many have responded. Natalie Patzin led the Tigers in kills in the first match, and posted a strong day as a libero in another. Serenat Yaz also tried her hand at libero, and posted eight kills against Georgia on Wednesday. Sherman and Brenner have each seen time at setter as well.
