Tiger Tennis Posts 5-2 Victory Over Troy On Sunday Afternoon

CHARLESTON, SC – Charleston native Samantha Eppelsheimer posted a victory in her first singles match of the dual season and the 7th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Troy, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island.

Eppelsheimer recorded a 6-3, 6-1 decision over the Trojans’ Nicole Shaw at the flight six position for one of the Tigers’ four singles victories on Sunday.

The win extended Clemson’s winning streak to six straight and improved its overall record to 12-2, while Troy fell to 7-3 on the year.

The Tigers claimed the doubles point for the 12th time this season, sweeping all three match-ups. Ani Mijacika and Carol Salge defeated Rawia Elsisi and Annabelle Bares, 8-2, at flight one, while Federica van Adrichem and Ina Hadziselimovic posted an 8-4 victory over Claudia Strauss and Stephanie Vieria at the number position. Maria Brito and Alexandra Luc won their team-leading 14th match of the year and completed the sweep with an 8-2 decision against Shaw and Caroline Jounia in the final contest.

Mijacika then continued her dominating play in singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Elsisi at the top position. She now boasts a 16-5 overall record with an 11-2 ledger in the spring season. Hadziselimovic also recorded a singles win for Clemson, defeating Jounia in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) at flight four, while Brito clinched the match for the Tigers with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Vieria in the number five match-up.

Troy’s Bares defeated Salge at flight two, 6-4, 7-5, and van Adrichem fell to Strauss at the number three position, 6-1, 6-4.

Clemson will return to the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Friday afternoon, as the Tigers will play host to Florida State in a 12:00 pm match.
