CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team captured the doubles point for the fifth consecutive match, but Georgia proved to be too much for the Tigers in singles play. The 16th-ranked Bulldogs went on to upset #12 Clemson, 6-1, at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Georgia remained undefeated at 6-0 on the year, while the Tigers dropped to 6-2 overall.

Clemson’s team of Federica van Adrichem and Ani Mijacika, ranked #55, posted an 8-5 upset over the Bulldogs’ 23rd-ranked tandem of Darya Ivanov and Yvette Hyndman at the top doubles position. Maria Brito and Alexandra Luc then won at number three, edging Natalie Frazier and Naoko Ueshima by a 9-7 margin for their seventh straight victory. Georgia avoided the sweep as Monika Dancevic and Kelley Hyndman, ranked #33, defeated Estefania Balda and Selma Babic in the flight two match-up.

The Bulldogs then claimed all six singles contests for the victory. Mijacika, ranked #47, suffered a three-set loss to Frazier, the 11th-ranked player in the nation, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4), at the number one singles spot. Balda then fell to 62nd-ranked Dancevic at flight two, 6-2, 7-5, while van Adrichem lost her first match of the dual season to Yvette Hyndman at the number three position, 6-2, 7-6(4).

Georgia’s Ivanov then defeated Brito by a 6-1, 7-5, margin at flight four, and Babic fell to Kelley Hyndman, 6-2, 6-1, at flight five. At the number six position, the Bulldogs’ Ueshima posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Luc.
