Tiger Men’s Cross Country Team To Compete At ACC Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s cross country team will travel to Winston-Salem, NC, to compete at the 2003 ACC Championships on Nov. 1. The starting time for the 8k men’s race is 10:00 AM, and admission to the Cross Country Championships will be free of charge. Each race will begin and end on Water Tower Field which is located directly inside the University Parkway entrance to Wake Forest. On campus parking will also be available for the event.

At last year’s ACC Cross Country Championships, NC State took home the men’s title. Entering this weekend’s meet, the Wolfpack and Florida State are in the top 25. The Tigers placed fourth at the conference meet a year ago. Matt Pimentel and Clay Pendleton were 49th and 55th, respectively.

Matt Pimentel, Eric Soder and Derrick Wyatt will compete for Clemson at this weekend’s Championships. Freshman Clark has been the Tigers’ number-two runner for the majority of the season, and has a season-best time of 24:58. Fenton recorded his season-best time of 24:56 at the Western Carolina Invitational, and Foley posted a 25:52 at the Clemson Invitational. Magidi has only competed in one other meet this season, but covered the 8K course at the Bulldog Stampede in 27:06.30. Pendleton owns a season-best time of 25:20 set at the Western Carolina Invitational, and Pimentel has been a solid four-runner for the Tigers with a season-best of 25:06 set two weeks ago at the Clemson Invitational. Shaw has been the Tigers’ top performer this season and is coming off a victory at the Clemson Invitational in which he ran a 24:18. Smith also set a season-best at the Clemson Invitational, running a 25:43, while Soder turned in a season-best performance at the Clemson meet, recording a time of 26:02. Wyatt has been one of the Tigers’ top three runners in three meets so far this season, and turned in a 2003-best time of 24:59 at Clemson.
