ORLANDO – For the second consecutive season, Clemson seniors Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Fernanda Navarro are headed to the NCAA Doubles Championship Sweet 16. The Tigers defeated the North Texas duo of Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze, 5-7, 6-3, [10-6], in the first round of the tournament.
The Tigers will face No. 3-seeded Gabby Andrews and Ayan Broomfield from UCLA in the round of 16 on May 22.
Leduc and Navarro faced an early setback as the North Texas pair came out on top in the first set, 7-5. However, the Clemson duo would not be deterred and battled back to post a decisive 6-3 victory in set two.
Carrying momentum into the tiebreak, the Tigers controlled the rest of the match and finished with a decisive 10-6 win in the tiebreak.
