Throws Team Stands Out and Tigers Perform at Tom Jones Memorial Meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Clemson throws group followed Rojé Stona’s school record-breaking discus throw on Friday with two additional top-10 marks, one by Daniel Cope and one by Marie Forbes, each in the hammer throw. Several other Tigers posted impressive mark on Saturday as the track and field program finally avoided some bad weather that had plagued previous meets and concluded a successful fifth meet of the season.

“This is the meet we’ve been waiting for,” said Program Director Mark Elliott. “We had good weather and good performances across the board. Both the men and women competed at their best so far this season, and the lots of national marks explain it all.”

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Rojé Stona was the star of the meet, winning the discus throw and setting a school record with a launch of 64.98 meter. That mark broke his previous PR by over three meters and is the No. 2 mark in the NCAA this season, as well as No. 10 in the world.
  • Caroline Johnston continued her solid season in the long jump with a season-bet 6.01 meter leap, just .01 meter off her PR. She finished third out of 30 competitors in the event.
  • Cameron Rose ran a blistering 20.50 second 200 meter dash, fourth-best out of over 40 competitors at the meet.

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Marie Forbes’s 63.22 meter hammer throw landed her third on Clemson’s all-time leaderboard.

  • Daniel Cope’s 61.55 meter hammer throw gets him to fourth on the men’s top-10 list.

  • Aman Thornton ran a 1:48.22 800 meter, his best of the season and a mark good for eighth on the all-time list.
