AUSTIN, Texas — The Clemson track and field program competed in its second meet of the outdoor season this weekend at the Texas Relays. Over three days of competition, the Tigers got to gain a better sense of where they stand at this point in the season. The throws team in particular shined with two top-10 marks set and two event winners in Rojé Stona and Marie Forbes.
“We had great performances in the field from Rojé and Marie,” said Program Director Mark Elliott. “A lot of season bests which is what we expected. Both teams keep getting better beach week.”
Up next, the squad heads to Gainesville, Fla. for the Florida Relays from Thursday, Mar. 31-Saturday, Apr. 2.
Rojé Stona started his season strong, winning the discus event with a 60.31 meter launch, best of a field of 16 competitors.
Danielle Sloley moved up to No. 4 on Clemson’s all-time top-10 list in the women’s shot put, throwing 16.07 meters to finish second in the event.
Marie Forbes rounded out a great weekend for the throws group with a No. 3 all-time discus throw of 52.01 meter, the best mark out of 11 competitors.
Cameron Rose has his outdoor season on the right track, as he posted a 10.29 second 100 meter dash.
On the distance side, the women’s distance medley group of Meredith Finley, Kenya Thompson, Leah Disher and Josie Wirtz posted a 11:45.37 time that was fifth out of 11 groups.
