Three Tigers Head to USA Volleyball WNT Open Program

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – Three Clemson volleyball players: Adria Powell, Mckenna Slavik and Devan Taylor, are making the journey to the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team Open Program, formerly known as the Open Tryout. The Open Program runs from Feb. 24-26.

The WNT Open Program is used for consideration for selection to both the U.S. Women’s National Team and the U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team. The Open Program is available to current and recently graduated, college-age athletes born in the years 1998-2004 inclusive. Athletes born in 2003 or younger may also be considered for selection to the U.S. U21 Women’s National Team that will compete in the 2023 FIVB U21 World Championships.

“The USAV Collegiate National Team tryout is a wonderful opportunity for members of our program to learn, grow and challenge themselves in an intensive training environment,” said Clemson head coach Jackie Simpson Kirr. “I am grateful that Clemson Athletics is so supportive of our student-athletes pursing their dreams at the highest level of our sport.”

Slavik is heading back to Colorado after previously being selected to the U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team in both 2022 and 2020. Last season, Slavik was an All-ACC Second Team selection after tallying 3,863 career assists to sit fifth on Clemson’s career records. She became the seventh Tiger in program history to hit 3,500 career assists.

In 2022, Taylor was Clemson’s libero for all 31 matches. She led the Tigers and the ACC with 489 total digs and tallied double-digit digs in 24 matches, including eight with 20 or more digs. She clocked a career-high 29 digs against Virginia Tech, 28 digs vs. South Carolina and 27 vs. Austin Peay.

Powell is new to the Tigers’ lineup in 2023 after transferring to Clemson at the semester after spending the previous four seasons at Ohio State. While with the Buckeyes, Powell played in 294 sets over 93 games and tallied 403 kills. She had 135 total blocks in 2022 to average 1.14 per set to finish her career with 209 blocks.
