With the 2001 Gator Bowl around the corner, ClemsonTigers.com and Clemson: Where the Tigers Play will be reliving Clemson’s four previous Gator Bowl wins leading up to the this season’s game in This Day In Clemson Sports. December 30, 1989 – Clemson 27, West Virginia 7 The Tigers defeated West Virginia 27-7 in the Gator Bowl. It was Clemson’s fourth-straight bowl victory and the fourth-straight year Clemson concluded the season ranked in the national top-20. The Tigers held West Virginia to just 119 yards passing and forced Heisman Trophy runner-up Major Harris into three fumbles. Chester McGlockton sacked Harris in the end zone and recovered the ball for a touchdown.
