TCU Defeats Clemson In Women’s Tennis Action

FORT WORTH, TX – The Clemson women’s tennis team lost its second match in as many days, falling to 20th-ranked TCU by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. The Tigers, ranked seventh in the most recent ITA poll, stand at 3-3 on the season, while the Horned Frogs remain undefeated with a 4-0 record.

Clemson dropped the doubles point, as TCU won all three doubles matches. TCU’s Paige Brown and Andrea Morgado captured the first match with an 8-3 over Clemson’s Richele LeSaldo and Ioana Paun. The Horned Frogs’ Story Tweedie-Yates and Ana Cetnik clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win over top-seeded Julie Coin and Maria Brito. An 8-6 win at flight three doubles over Clemson’s Romy Farah and Carol Salge by Karla Mancinas and Helena Besovic finished off the sweep.

In singles, TCU’s Andrea Morgado was the first to finish and gave the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead, as she defeated Richele LeSaldo in the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-2. At four singles, Ioana Paun dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to TCU’s Kewa Nichols to give the Horned Frogs their third point of the match.

Clemson staged a comeback when rookie Carol Sagle upended TCU’s Gloriann Lopez at the No. 5 spot, 7-5, 7-5, for the Tigers’ first point. In the highlighted match of the day, the Tigers’ Julie Coin, who is ranked No. 5 in the nation, beat No. 14 Story Tweedie-Yates, 6-3, 7-5.

Helena Besovic clinched the match for the Horned Frogs as she defeated Farah, who is ranked 88th in the country, in three sets. The TCU junior, ranked 25th in the ITA rankings, claimed the first set 7-6 (3), before falling 6-4 in the second. Besovic, who is 25th in the ITA rankings, made short work of the Clemson freshman in the third set winning 6-0.

Clemson notched their final point of the day in the No. 3 spot when Cetnik retired her match to Clemson’s 114th-ranked Maria Brito.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they play host to the University of Georgia in a noon match at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Complex.
