NORMAN, Okla. — Andrew Swanson (Bluffton, S.C./May River) and Jonathan Nielsen (Copenhagen, Denmark/Birkerød Gymnasium) have been named by the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) as 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholars.
To be eligible for nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Swanson led the team in stroke average (71.39) and finished with two top-10 finishes, including medalist honors at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii. Swanson shot an 18-under-par 195 over three rounds to claim the individual victory.
His third-round score of 63 was a season-low for the sophomore. He finished the season with nine rounds in the 60’s.
Swanson concluded the season with a 14th-place finish at the ACC Championshp and a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Salem Regional. Over the course of the season, he added six top-15 finishes.
Nielsen, in his first year as a Tiger, finished second in stroke average (71.87) and finished with one top-10 finish, including six rounds in the 60’s. Nielsen’s best round came in the Ka’anapali Classic when he fired a 67 in the first round.
Nielsen collected his top-10 finish at The Blessings, finishing ninth overall individually and shooting an even-par 210.
