Joshua Watson

Position: Director of Career & Professional Development

Joshua Watson joined Clemson Football and P.A.W. Journey as Director of Career and Professional Development in July 2024. Watson’s diverse background and wealth of experience spans education, business development and athletics.

In his current role at Clemson, Watson is dedicated to supporting scholar-athletes in their career growth. His mission is to impact the next generation through a blend of faith, holistic life skills and mentorship, helping them excel both on and off the field while preparing them for future success. He is committed to guiding young athletes in their personal and professional development, fostering their growth into first-class men and world-class leaders.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Watson served at Delaware’s William Penn High School, where he implemented restorative practices specifically designed to help students identified as special education meet both behavioral and academic standards. He also served as a football and strength & conditioning coach.

As a founder and CEO of his own real estate companies, Watson joined Clemson with significant experience in property acquisitions and investments. He credits his time as an NFL and CFL athlete not only with invaluable competitive experience but also the shaping of his leadership style and strategic thinking, skills that continue to influence his approach to mentorship and professional development today.

A native of Wilmington, Del., Watson graduated from Clemson University in December 2013 with a degree in sociology. He played defensive tackle for the Tigers from 2010-14, serving as a key contributor on the team’s defense that ranked No. 1 in the country in yards allowed per game in 2014. Watson appeared in 44 career games at Clemson with 19 starts, recording 148 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 23 quarterback pressures, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, one recovered fumble and one blocked kick in more than 1,200 career snaps over 44 games (19 starts).
