Career Honors• All-ACC Academic, Outdoor Track & Field (2011-12) • USTFCCCA All-Academic (2011-12) • USA Junior Championships Participant, 3000 Steeplechase (2011) Clemson Highlights • Ranks eighth in Clemson history in the 3000 steeplechase. 2011-12 Outdoor Highlights • Competed at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, FL in the 3000 steeplechase and was just three spots shy of a berth to the national meet • Finished 15th out of 48 competitors with a personal best 8:50.35, the eighth-best time in Clemson history for the event • Sixth-place finisher at the ACC Championships in the steeplechase 2011-12 Indoor Highlights • Finished 12th at the ACC Championships in both longer distances, the 3000 and 5000 meters • Best performance was his 5K time of 14:15.54, better than any of his outdoor times in the event through two seasons 2010-11 Highlights • Red-shirted the indoor season • Owned team’s top five times in the 3000-meter steeplechase, including a best of 9:01.10 at the Penn Relays • Competed in the event at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Bloomington, IN and came away with a time of 9:01.82 and finished 24th out of 48 participants • Won the collegiate section of the steeple at the prestigious Penn Relays • Scored for the Tigers with eighth-place finish in steeple at the ACC meet in Durham, NC after posting time of 9:03.12 • Placed fourth at the USA Junior Championships in the steeplechase North Hall High School Highlights • Won USA Junior Olympic Cross Country championship in 2009 as a senior against a field of 250 runners • Finished runner-up at AAA state cross country championship in 2009 and fifth in 2008 • Placed fourth in the 5K at the 2010 New Balance Nationals in Greensboro, NC with a time of 14:47.01 to earn All-America status • Placed fifth at the 2009 USA Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in the young men 2000m steeplechase • Won eight individual titles as a senior for the Trojans’ cross country squad; his total included a win at the Region 7-AAA Championships • School record-holder in the 5K was named Boys Cross Country Runner-of-the-Year by the Gainesville Times • Won Georgia AAA state track championships in both 1600m (4:19.67) and 3200m (9:08.66) • Region 7-AAA champion in both track events as well, which included running a state record 9:05.35 in the 3200m • Did not start running until the spring of 2008, he played basketball and football prior to that • Coached by Art DaCosta Personal • Born 9/17/92 • Son of Thad and Kelly McCormack • Majoring in language & international trade; studied abroad in China as part of his curriculum in the fall of 2012 • Grandfather, Dewey Alverson, was a two-sport athlete at Indiana (1953-54) and Tennessee Tech (1955-57) • Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, he ranked among the top five in his graduating class • Named to 2010-11 ACC Academic Honor Roll Best Collegiate Times• 1500 – 3:50.65 • Mile – 4:10.65 • 3000 – 8:15.60 • 3000 Steeplechase – 8:50.35 • 5000 – 14:15.54
