CLEMSON, SC – The South Florida Bulls defeated the Clemson Tigers 3-1 (15-9, 9-15, 15-3, 15-5) in the final round of the Big Orange Bash to claim the tournament title. Clemson’s Jodi Steffes was named to the All-tournament team along with Akron’s Ashlie Case and Katie Kuzor and South Florida’s Rachel Paul and Kelly Mathiasmeier. The Bull’s Michelle Collier was named tournament most valuable player.
Jodi Steffes led the Tigers with 15 kills and eight digs. Meredith Kirtland tallied ten kills while Kiki Dallao had nine kills and ten digs. Jessi Betcher tallied 44 assists with ten digs.
Michelle Collier led all hitters with 26 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks. Rachel Paul had 16 kills with a team-high 15 digs. Melanie Mueller tallied 56 assists and Maryann Mooney added 12 kills with 10 digs.
Clemson travels to Columbia, SC, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, for a 7:00 p.m. with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Akron Improves to 4-3 with Win over Davidson
CLEMSON, SC – The Akron Zips improved to 4-3 on the season as they picked up a 3-1 (15-10, 15-9, 13-15, 17-15) win over the Davidson Wildcats.
Katie Kuzior led the Zips with 24 kills and 14 digs. Julie McDivitt tallied 58 assists with 13 kills while Ashlie Case added 16 kills with 14 digs.
Mara Mordini tallied 24 kills with 25 digs to lead the Wildcats. Brooke Bentley added 25 digs with eight kills and Erica Schwartz recorded 51 assists.
