South Florida Defeats Clemson Volleyball, 3-2

Malibu, CA The Clemson volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (19-30, 30-26, 30-21, 22-30, 18-20) decision to the South Florida on Saturday in the last game of the Howdy’s Pepperdine Classic. The Bulls improve to 1-2, while the Tigers fall to 0-3 on the season.

The Tigers started out slow, dropping the first game 19-30, then Clemson rebounded and won the next two games 30-26 and 30-21. Clemson outhit South Florida .263 to .173 and held the Bulls to a .071 hitting percentage in the second game.

Clemson was led by sophomore Lori Ashton who tallied a career high 23 kills. The middle hitter hit .463 for the night, posted three blocks (two solo) and was named to the All-Tournament team. Leslie Finn recorded 16 kills and a .414 hitting percentage, while Ryane Beasley posted 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior Jessi Betcher handed out 58 assists and 11 digs, and junior Lindsey Abbott tallied a career high 17 digs.

The Bulls were led by Michelle Collier, who posted a double-double with 21 kills and 20 digs. Jolene Patton recorded 15 kills and nine digs, while Rachel Jones tallied nine kills, four blocks (one solo) and a .320 hitting percentage.

The Tigers will play host to the University of Georgia on Wednesday, Sept. 4 in Jervey Gym at 7:00 p.m.
