Simpson Kirr Adds Two Graduate Transfers

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson volleyball head coach Jackie Simpson Kirr announced the addition of two graduate transfers, Adria Powell and Katie Culumovic, to the 2023 roster on Tuesday. Powell joins the Tigers after spending the previous five seasons at Ohio State and helping the Buckeyes reach the 2022 NCAA Regional Finals, while Culumovic spent the previous four seasons at Mississippi State. Both Powell and Culumovic will join the program to begin the spring semester.

“Adria and Katie are winners,” said Simpson Kirr. “They both made huge contributions on and off the court to programs that experienced significant growth during their careers. I believe they will be great mentors and leaders for our young Tigers.”

  • Tallied 403 kills during her career to average 1.37 per set
  • Hit .284 with 135 kills and averaged 1.14 during her senior campaign
  • Had 135 total blocks (10 solo, 125 assisted) in 2022 to average 1.14 per set
  • Finished her career with 209 total blocks (20 solo, 189 assisted) averaging 0.71 per set
  • Clocked 542.5 points while at Ohio State, including 209.5 during her senior campaign
  • Had a career-high 17 kills against Rutgers (Oct. 5, 2018)
  • Tallied eight blocks four times in 2022, including against Minnesota (Nov. 25) and Penn State (Oct. 29)
  • Four time Academic All-Big Ten (2019, 20, 21, 22)
  • Three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete (2019, 20, 21)

According to Simpson Kirr: “Adria will bring experience to our program from the highest level of the game. She has an intense passion for pursuing excellence and plans to continue her career at the professional level postgraduation. On the court, she has a unique balance of competitive drive and calm focus that will help raise the competitive maturity of our program.”

  • Played in 89 sets spread over 39 matches
  • Member of the 2021 Mississippi State team that made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Bulldog history
  • Tallied 212 assists during her career, including 123 during her sophomore campaign
  • Finished with 108 digs
  • Had a career-high 12 digs against Sam Houston St. (Sept. 13, 2019) and at LSU (Oct. 29, 2022)
  • Tallied a career-high 26 assists vs. Sam Houston St. (Sept. 13, 2019)
  • Averaged 2.38 assists per set and 1.21 digs per set for the Bulldogs
  • Clocked 12 service aces over four years
  • 2020 SEC Community Service Team
  • 2020 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll
  • 2019 SEC First-Year Honor Roll

Simpson Kirr stated: “Katie has an intense work ethic matched only by her care and love for her teammates. She has played a variety of roles on the court and truly has a program first mentality. Katie will instantly make a positive impact on how our gym competes together.”
