Shannon?s Golden Goal Leads Clemson Over Providence 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Oliver Shannon scored a golden goal in the 93rd minute and the Clemson men’s soccer team picked up a 2-1 win at Providence Sunday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 3-3-0 with the win.

Shannon’s goal came off an assist from senior Manolo Sanchez. The score was the first of Shannon’s Clemson’s career. After receiving the ball, Shannon cut to the box line, then cut back out and buried the shot in the top right portion of the goal. 

Senior captain Phanuel Kavita scored Clemson’s first goal of the match in the 25th minute. The defender scored off a penalty kick. The goal was also his first of the season.

Sophomore Andrew Tarbell and redshirt junior Chris Glodack split time in goal for Clemson, with Glodack playing the first half and tallying three saves. Tarbell played the second half and overtime. 

As a team, Clemson out-shot Providence 13 to 12, while corner kicks were 4-3 in favor of the Friars. 

Clemson returns home this week after a five-game road trip. The Tigers host Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Historic Riggs Field at 7 p.m.
