HOOVER, Ala. — The Clemson cross country team competed at the Blazer Classic hosted by UAB on Saturday morning. The Tigers finished fourth in the women’s 6k and 10th in the men’s 8k.
Sam Garringer ran what Head Coach Vicky Pounds called “The best race of his Clemson career.” His mark of 24:53.88 was the fifth fastest time in the field of 177 runners. Freshman Sawyer Dagan was the second finisher for the Tigers on the men’s side, posting a 25:47.12, good for 33rd-best in the race.
Leah Disher and Josie Wirtz were neck and neck all race, both finishing with personal bests of 22:03.73 and 22:05.12, which placed them 15th and 16th, respectively, out of 151 total runners.
The Blazer Classic was the Tigers last tune-up before the ACC Championships in Notre Dame on October 29. Pounds is looking forward to getting healthier in the lead-up to that trip and is “confident that both teams will compete to the best of their abilities.”
