BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The first day of the NCAA East Regional Prelims at Indiana University saw seven Tigers advance to NCAA quarterfinals. Giano Roberts, Lafranz Campbell, Devon Brooks, Aman Thornton, Tarees Rhoden, Wanya McCoy and Cameron Rose will all compete on Friday for the right to travel to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA Championship Meet.
Campbell got the day started strong for Clemson, running a personal best 13.47 second 110 meter hurdle time to win his heat and move up to No. 4 on Clemson’s all-time list. Roberts and Brooks each earned automatic qualifications by finishing in the top three of their heats.
Thornton and Rhoden also earned automatic qualifications in the 800 meter dash, running 1:50.13 and 1:49.26, respectively. Following the 800 meter heats, there was a two-hour weather delay.
Subsequent to the rain delay, Rose and McCoy took to the track. McCoy earned an automatic qualification by posting a 20.55 second time. Rose finished fractions of a second later, with a mark of 20.58 seconds, good enough to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
On Thursday, the Clemson women’s track and field team will look to send several of its members through to the quarterfinals. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. with the women’s hammer throw.
