Schroeder Earns Top-25 Win as Tigers Fall to No. 10 Georgia Tech

Atlanta, Ga. — The Clemson women’s tennis team (9-5, 1-3 ACC) fell, 4-2, to No. 10 Georgia Tech (13-5, 3-1 ACC) on Friday night at Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta, Ga. During the match, senior Tate Schroeder earned a win over No. 23 Kenya Jones, marking her first win top-25 individual win of the season.

In doubles, Mackenzy Middlebrooks/Eleni Louka took line two, sweeping their competition, 6-0. However, the Tigers dropped the doubles decision 2-1. No. 6 Sydney Riley tied that match at one-all  in singles after defeating her opponent, 6-3, 6-0, but the Yellow Jackets regained the lead with wins in the No. 4 and 5 positions. During her court one match against No. 23 Jones, Schroeder fell being early in falling, 3-6, in the first set. The senior persevered to win the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Of Note:

  • Tate Schroeder earns her first win over a top-25 ranked individual this season. It also marks the first time this season that a Tiger has defeated a top-25 individual.
  • Sydney Riley’s win at line six marks her 10th-straight singles win.
  • The Tigers fall to Georgia Tech for the fifth-consecutive matchup. The last time the Tigers beat the Yellow Jackets was on April 4, 2015.

Up Next: The Tigers close out their four-match road trip on Sunday when they travel to Spartanburg for a pair of matches against Wofford and USC Upstate. The matches will be played on the home courts of Wofford and USC Upstate and will be played at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
