Sam Russ Named Academic All-District

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson outfielder Sam Russ has been named an Academic All-District 4 selection, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. Russ is the first Academic All-District selection for the softball program at Clemson.

With the selection, Russ has the opportunity to be named a First or Second-Team Academic All-American via further voting, which is done annually by members of CoSIDA. She’ll look to become the first Academic All-American in the program’s short infancy.

Graduate transfer Russ, who is working towards a MBA at Clemson after earning a business degree from NC State in 2021, has started all 52 games for the Tigers this season in left field. She’s batting .280 with seven doubles, four triples, two home runs, 13 RBIs and 26 runs scored. She set the program record for most stolen bases in a season during the last regular-season series against Georgia Tech on April 29 with 24 and extended that to 25 in the quarterfinal’s game of the ACC Softball Championship against Notre Dame.

The Charlotte, N.C. native was a two-time Academic All-ACC selection and four-time ACC Honor Roll member with the Wolfpack.

To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve for their respective teams.
