Rollins, Wesh Lead Clemson Track & Field on Day One at NCAA Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, TX – Clemson sophomores Brianna Rollins and Marlena Wesh qualified for finals of their respective events on Friday, day one of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Rollins was electric in the preliminary round. A native of Miami, FL, she qualified for her first-ever individual final as a collegiate athlete. Last season, she was ninth overall but did not make the finals. This time around, she posted a time of 8.06 to win her heat and tie for the fastest time overall. Saturday’s final will be held at 5:20 PM (Central time). Classmate Jasmine Edgerson was 16th in the prelims with a time of 8.65.

Wesh was even more impressive on Friday than she was in the final round at the ACC Indoor Championships two weeks ago. She broke her own school record with a sizzling time of 52.88 in the 400m dash. She will compete in Saturday’s final in the faster of the two sections.

Justin Murdock and Stormy Kendrick competed in the men’s and women’s 60m dash, respectively, but neither advanced to Saturday’s finals. Murdock had a time of 6.73 to place 14th, while Kendrick had the 13th-best time in her event at 7.30. Kendrick also competed in the 200 prelims, finishing 11th overall with a time of 23.43.

Spencer Adams competed in the men’s 60 hurdles for the second straight season at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He clocked a time of 7.89 and was 15th in the preliminary round, putting an end to his sophomore indoor season.

Miller Moss is fourth in the standings for the heptathlon after day one, but he is just 55 points behind leader Mantas Silkauskas of Kansas State. Moss compiled 3,292 points through the first four events. He began with a personal best 6.91 in the 60 meter dash and followed with a long jump of 23’6″. He recorded a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 44’6.75″ and then finished strong with a high jump clearance of 6’7.5″.

April Sinkler was 10th in the women’s long jump. She had a top mark of 20’1.75″ on her second jump, but did not make it to the finals in order to receive three additional attempts. She competes Saturday at 3:30 PM (CST) in the triple jump.

Brittney Waller competed in her first-ever NCAA national meet. The sophomore out of Greenville, SC had a mark of 62’10.75″ in the weight throw and finished 12th overall.

The meet concludes on Saturday, starting with the heptathlon at 12:00 PM (CST).
