CLEMSON, S.C. — Tarees Rhoden was tabbed as the ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week for his efforts at the Tom Jones Invitational, the conference announced on Tuesday. Rhoden ran the fastest 800 meters in the NCAA this season while also contributing to the school record-breaking men’s 4×400 meter relay team.
Rhoden’s 1:46.20 is the fastest time ran in the 800 meters this season and moved him up to No. 2 on Clemson’s all-time list for the event. He is just 0.73 seconds off Kameron Jones’s school record. Aman Thornton finished just behind Rhoden with a time of 1:46.82 to move up to No. 4 in school history.
Rhoden was also a member of the 4×400 meter relay team that took over as the school’s fastest ever with a time of 3:02.94. The time is good for 11th fastest in the nation this season and fastest in the ACC.
ACC Performer of the Week is just the latest honor that Rhoden can add to his resume, as he recently became a back-to-back ACC Indoor Champion in the 800 meter relay as well as a first team All-American. Due in large part to Rhoden’s massive season, the men’s team is ranked No. 7 in the nation by the USTFCCCA.
The Tigers will compete next on Saturday, Apr. 22 when they travel to Columbia, S.C. for the USC Open.
