Reba Pitches Complete Game In 5-3 Win Over Purdue

March 8, 2002

CLEMSON, SC — Steve Reba pitched the third complete game of his career to lead Clemson to a 5-3 win over Purdue on Friday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers stayed (8-0) undefeated this season and dropped Purdue to a record of 2-6.

Reba allowed five hits while striking out six batters in nine innings of work. The Fort Wayne, IN, native outdueled Chad Blasko (1-1), who got the loss for Purdue. Reba’s only mistake came in the third inning, when he gave up a three-run homer to Daniel Underwood. But the senior held Purdue down the rest of the way while the Tiger offense went to work.

Khalil Greene launched his second home run of the year in the first inning to get Clemson on the board. In the bottom of the third, Greene knocked in another run when his single plated L.J. DeMaino. The Tigers tied it at three in the fifth inning with Kyle Frank’s first home run of the season.

Clemson took the lead for good in the sixth inning. David Slevin led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on an error. Slevin scored and gave the Tigers a 4-3 advantage when Steve Pyzik reached on a fielder’s choice. Frank doubled in Pyzik later in the inning to cap the scoring.

Greene and Frank had two RBIs a piece and were the only Tigers with multiple hits on the day. Frank has hit safely in every game this season and Greene has had a least one RBI in every game.

Clemson will take on Purdue at 2:00 PM on Saturday in the second of three games between the two teams this weekend. Matt Henrie (1-0) will take the hill for Clemson while Dustin Glant (0-0) is expected to get the call for Purdue.
