Rawl, Clemson Lead ACC Championships After Round One

Wilmington, N.C. – Isabella Rawl matched her best round of the season with a -5 (67) to lead Clemson women’s golf to a solo lead following the first round of the 2024 ACC Championships, held at Porter’s Neck Country Club in Wilmington, N.C. 

As a team, the Tigers finished at -10, shooting a 278 as a team. Wake Forest is two shots out of the lead at -8, followed by Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia Tech who currently sit in a tie for third at -5. Florida State is sixth at -2, while NC State was the last team to shoot even or better, finishing with a 288.

Individually, Rawl’s 67 led all competitors by two strokes, with seven players, including Clemson’s Chloe Holder, tied for second at -3. Annabelle Pancake finished the day at two-under par, tied for ninth, while Sydney Roberts rounded out the scoring for Clemson with an even par 72. Melena Barrientos finished the round at +4. 

Rawl’s round included just one bogey and back-to-back birdies to close out both the front and back nine. The Lexington, S.C, native birdied three of her last four holes on the day to complete a bogey-free back nine to tie her best round of the season for gross score and vs. par. 

Holder turned in a solid round as well, carding three birdies each on the front and back nine, highlighted by back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 after making the turn. She also birdied 18 to put the Tigers at -10 for the day. 

Pancake also turned in six birdies on the day, including matching Holder with back-to-back birdies on the back nine. Roberts turned in five birdies on the afternoon, but matched her scoring teammates with a birdie on the 18th hole.  

All four score-counting rounds included back-to-back birdies at one point on the course, as well as a birdie on the 18th hole.

Clemson returns to the course tomorrow, April 19, to compete in the second round of the 2024 ACC Championships. Pairings and tee times will be available later this evening.
