Tigers to Compete at USC Open on Saturday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson track and field program will travel to Columbia, S.C. to compete at the USC Open on Saturday, Apr. 22. The meet will take place the entire day from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Including Clemson, 45 teams will send athletes to compete at the USC Open. It marks the Tigers’ third to last meet before ACC Championships in Raleigh, N.C. from May 11-13.

The Tigers are having an incredible season to this point, having put up numerous impressive performances in all of their meets. The men’s team is ranked No. 7 in the nation by the USTFCCCA, while the women are placed at No. 50. The men are the only ACC men’s program ranked in the top-10 in the nation and one of just three in the top-25.

The Clemson men are ranked in the top-25 in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter run and 800 meter run. Following Tarees Rhoden’s nation leading 1:46.20 time in the 800 meters at the Tom Jones Invitational, the Tigers have the No. 2 ranked 800 meter group in the nation.

The women are ranked in the top-30 in each of the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter hurdles, 400 meter run and 800 meter run. Lashanna Graham’s 56.54 400 meter hurdles time run at the Tom Jones Invitational is ninth-fastest in the nation this season and second-best in the ACC. The 400 meter hurdles group is ranked No. 7 in the country.

The throwers have also been sensational this season, with Marie Forbes holding top-15 marks in the country in both the discus and hammer throws. Her 56.93 meter discus throw is a school record, and her 64.91 meter hammer throw is No. 2 in school history.  Daniel Cope’s 62.97 meter hammer throw is No. 3 in school history.
