Okey First-Team All-American

CLEMSON, S.C. – Sophomore catcher Chris Okey (Mount Dora, Fla.) was named a first-team All-American by NCBWA on Wednesday. Okey joined junior lefthander Matthew Crownover as first-team All-Americans from the 2015 team. Crownover was named a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball. It marked the first time since 2006 that Clemson had multiple first-team All-Americans on one team. Crownover (Ringgold, Ga.) earned second-team All-America honors by NCBWA as well.

Okey, a First-Team All-ACC selection, won the 2015 Mitchell Award, given to the team’s most valuable player. He hit .315 with 50 runs, 16 doubles, one triple, 12 homers, 57 RBIs, a .545 slugging percentage, .389 on-base percentage, 27 walks, four hit-by-pitches and three steals in 61 starts at catcher.

Crownover was named ACC Pitcher-of-the-Year in 2015. He had a 10-3 record and 1.82 ERA in 16 starts. In 109.0 innings pitched, he allowed 72 hits (.183 opponents’ batting average) and 37 walks with 108 strikeouts. He led or tied for the team lead in ERA, wins, starts, innings pitched, strikeouts and opponents’ batting average.

Three Tigers were named to the ABCA All-Atlantic Region squad as well. Crownover earned first-team honors, while Okey and freshman outfielder Reed Rohlman (Moore, S.C.) were second-team selections.
