Notes On Clemson’s Game Against George Washington In Men’s Basketball

Clemson Player of the Game Freshman Pasha Bains came off the bench to pour in 19 points for Clemson on Wednesday night…it was a breakout game for Bains, a transfer from Wyoming, who has struggled since gaining eligibility to play earlier this month…Bains missed the first seven games of the season because of NCAA transfer rules…in addition to his 19 points he grabbed three rebounds, all offensive.

Key Stat of the Game George Washington made 15 three-point attempts in Wednesday night’s win over Clemson…it was the third most 3s ever made against Clemson and the most made against the Tigers in Littlejohn Coliseum.

Solomon Has Another Solid Performance Sophomore Will Solomon continues to prove to be the most important cog in the Clemson offense…he scored 14 points against GW…unfortunately for Clemson Solomon sat a majority of the first half on the bench because of foul trouble.

Andrius Jurkunas Continues to Contribute Despite Playing With Broken Thumb Andrius Jurkunas was not the game’s leading scorer, but he did have a big game for Clemson on Wednesday night…Jurkunas continues to come up big for the Tigers despite playing with a bandage on his right hand as he waits for his broken thumb to heal…against George Washington he pulled down a career high 11 rebounds and dished out a career high seven assists…he has 13 assists combined in the last two games…he scored nine points against the Colonials.

George Washington’s Triple Trouble George Washington had three scorers combine for 78 of the team’s 90 points on Thursday night…it was the first time a team had three 20-point scorers against Clemson since Florida State had three in Tallahassee during the 1992-93 season…Bernard Barrow led GW’s assault with 28 points, he was 7-14 on 3s…Freshman SirValiant Brown entered the game as the nation’s second leading scorer and dumped in 27 against Clemson…Brown did not have a good shooting night however, he was 7-27 (25.9%) from the floor and 3-16 (18.8%) on 3s…Chris Monroe probably had the best all-around game of anybody on the floor as he scored 23 points (7-14, 4-7 on 3s), grabbed 13 rebounds, had two assists, one steal and no turnovers in the game.

All In the Family Junior Antxon Iturbe, brother of former Clemson player Iker Iturbe, scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds for GW…Iker played for Clemson from 1994-1998…he passed up his final year of eligibility to play professionally in Spain…Iker wore number-15 during his days at Clemson, Antxon wears the same number at George Washington.
