No. 9 Clemson Tigers Earn Draw Against Georgia Bulldogs

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 9 Clemson Tigers wrapped up their non-conference slate with a 1-1 draw against Georgia, as they officially ended the first half of the 2023 season unbeaten. Sophomore Emma Wennar earned the lone goal for the Tigers and goalkeeper Halle Mackiewicz picked up two saves.

“It was a good game tonight, it was good to face a little bit of adversity on the road and see what kind of response we get. We love the response we got, to come back and tie the game up and create opportunities to make a win. I saw a lot of resilience, grit and heart out there and these are ingredients that you will need to become a champion so I’m proud of our performance here today,” Head Coach Eddie Radwanski said.

After a back-and-forth battle, both teams finished the first half of the match scoreless as the Tigers and the Bulldogs both looked to secure the win in the second half. In the 49th minute, Summer Denigan was able to knock one through a group of Tigers and past Mackiewicz on the left side of the goal as the Bulldogs took the 1-0 lead.

In the 69th minute, the Tigers responded back as senior Makenna Morris moved the ball past three Bulldogs and found sophomore Emma Wennar in scoring position. After the pass from Morris, Wennar slid towards the ball and snuck it in just past the Georgia keeper to level the score in Athens.

Denigan is the first person to score on Mackiewicz this season as the Tiger keeper had kept a 1.000 save percentage throughout seven games this season.

The Tigers wrap up the non-conference slate unbeaten as they finish the first half of the season with a 6-0-2 record.

Up next, the Tigers will open up conference play by hosting Florida State at Historic Riggs on Friday, September 15th. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on ACCNX.
