No. 8 Georgia Tech Tops Tigers in Three Sets

CLEMSON, S.C. – Eighth-ranked Georgia Tech (6-1, 6-1 ACC) won its sixth straight match and its fifth consecutive sweep this season as the Yellow Jackets defeated Clemson (1-2, 1-2 ACC), 25-17, 25-19, 25-17, in O’Keefe Gymnasium Thursday evening. Georgia Tech’s Mariana Brambilla posted a match-high 22 kills and hit .700 on the night with just one error. The Tigers were led by Solei Thomas (eight kills) and Mckenna Slavik (23 assists).

After the Yellow Jackets took the first, Clemson leaped out to an 8-4 lead early in the second. A 7-1 run by Georgia Tech in the middle of the set with Brambilla behind the service line shifted the lead in favor of the Yellow Jackets, 15-14. Georgia Tech would close out the set winning the final three points to take a 2-0 lead entering the break. The Yellow Jackets led by as many as eight, 18-10, in the third. The Tigers would cut their deficit to four, 21-17, before Georgia Tech capped off the final four points to seal the set and match. Brambilla posted 11 of her 22 kills in the third frame.

Up next, Clemson returns to O’Keefe Gym on Friday for a rematch against the Yellow Jackets. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. on RSN (Fox Sports South locally). Per RamblinWreck.com, season and single-game tickets will not be sold for the 2020 season due to COVID-19. O’Keefe Gymnasium will operate at a reduced capacity, and face coverings will be required for everyone in attendance.
