No. 4 Clemson Travels to Charleston for Midweek Match

Clemson, S.C. –The fourth-ranked Clemson men’s soccer team takes to the road to finish their three-game road-trip with a Tuesday night match at College of Charleston. The Tigers look to return to their winning ways after a 2-3 overtime defeat at No. 7 Wake Forest this past Saturday. The loss to the Demon Deacons was the first defeat that Clemson had suffered this season. The Clemson program is led in scoring by junior Kimarni Smith, who has netted 10 goals through the first nine games.

Series Notes:

  • The match on Tuesday night will be the ninth meeting between the Cougars and Tigers, with Clemson leading the series with a 7-0-1 record.
  • The two sides first met on Sept. 1, 1985, with Clemson winning 7-0.
  • This will be the first time that the two teams meet with the College of Charleston acting as the host. All eight prior matches have been held at Historic Riggs Field.
  • The last time the two sides met was during the 2018 season, with Clemson winning 3-1.
  • Clemson has out-scored College of Charleston by a 24-3 margin over the series.
  • This will be the sixth time the Cougars and Tigers meet when Clemson is ranked nationally within the top 20.

  • Clemson has had 13 different players score goals, with 17 contributing assists. Tanner Dieterich and Phillip Mayaka each have contributed six assists.

College of Charleston

  • The Cougars have netted six goals so far this season, allowing 19 through their nine games.
  • Jake Nicholson and Tucker Heffron each have two goals on the year. Mads Myllerup leads the team with two assists.
  • Isaac Alstrom has been the lone goalie to protect the net for the Cougars, posting a 2.33 GAA average.
  • Head Coach Ralph Lundy is in his 33rd season at the helm of the program, posting 321 wins at College of Charleston entering the season.
  • The Cougars’ lone win on the season came against Presbyterian College, defeating the Blue Hose 1-0.
