No. 24 Clemson Sweeps Past Winthrop and Davidson to Open Spring Season

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team picked up its first two wins of the spring season on Saturday, with 7-0 decisions over both Winthrop and Davidson. Both matches were played at Davidson.

Senior Alejandro Augusto led Clemson in the singles portion against Winthrop, defeating Dylan Comerford of the Eagles in the No. 1 slot. Clemson won all six singles matches against the Eagles. Winthrop’s Comerford and Peter Nagovrah defeated Clemson seniors Hunter Harrington and Augusto at No. 1 doubles. The Tigers took care of business in the other two doubles slots. 

The Tigers faced off with Davidson at 3 p.m. Harrington again played at No. 1 singles for Clemson, rallying past Wildcat Shamael Chaudhry 6-4, 7-5. Clemson also won all six singles matches against the Wildcats. Harrington and Augusto recovered from their earlier defeat to knock off Davidson’s Evan Watkins and Jack Riazzi 7-6. 

Clemson sits at 2-0 on the young season and next faces Memphis on Friday, Jan. 23 in Durham, N.C. at the ITA Kickoff Weekend Event. That match will start at 10 a.m.
