Durham, N.C. – The 22nd ranked Clemson men’s tennis team fell to No. 23 Memphis 4-2 this morning in the first match of this weekend’s ITA Kickoff Event, hosted by Duke. Clemson fell to 2-1 on the young season while Memphis improved to 1-0.
Memphis clinched the doubles point in the match when the team of Connor Glennon and Kai Lemke knocked off Clemson’s senior duo of Hunter Harrington and Alejandro Augusto 6-4.
Junior Austin Ansari was a winner at flight three singles in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-2. Shortly after that match went final, Harrington, ranked 69th nationally, won a hard-fought match against Glennon, ranked 79th nationally, 6-4, 7-5. That win knotted the overall match score at 2. Meanwhile, Augusto played the 23rd ranked player in the nation tough, falling to Memphis’ Andrew Watson 7-5, 6-4. Clemson’s Daffra Sanon fell in three sets at No. 6 singles to provide the final margin.
Clemson will face either No. 12 Duke or No. 18 Wake Forest tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Duke’s Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in the ITA Kickoff Consolation Match. Live stats will be available and updates will be posted on Twitter @ClemsonMTennis throughout the match.
