No. 19 Clemson Takes Down No. 42 South Florida on the Road

TAMPA, FL – The 19th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated No. 42 South Florida , 5-2, in Tampa at the USF Varsity Courts on Friday afternoon. Clemson improved to 11-5 overall and 15-6 in the all-time series with the Bulls.

The Tigers will now travel to Tallahassee for a Sunday match with No. 36 Florida State at noon. Clemson will try to give Nancy Harris her 85th career ACC win, which would establish a school mark. The Bulls defeated the Seminoles, 5-2, on March 6th.

The Tigers mixed things up in doubles, and took the point for the first time since playing South Carolina on Feb. 27. Laurianne Henry won, 8-4, at flight three to cinch the point.

The Bulls and Tigers played several close singles matches down the stretch as well. Caroline Magnusson defeated Kate Parker at flight six, 6-0, 6-0, to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

No. 15 Josipa Bek then inched Clemson closer to a team victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win against 43rd-ranked Irene Rehberger at the top singles spot.

Freshman Klara Vyskocilova played her first singles match as a nationally ranked player, as she sat out the previous two matches due to injury. The nation’s 104th-best singles player defeated Alessandra Bonte, 6-3, 6-1, at flight four to clinch the match for the Tigers.

The Bulls got one back at flight two as No. 106 Ecaterina Vasenina defeated No. 58 Maria Belaya then fell at flight five, 3-6, 6-7 (6), before sophomore Nelly Ciolkowski knocked off No. 76 Janet Bejikova after dropping the first set, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(5) to close the match at 5-2.
