No. 17 Tigers Return from Break with 6-1 Victory at GT

ATLANTA – Yana Koroleva and Beatrice Gumulya’s upset of fourth-ranked Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey at the top doubles position highlighted No. 17 Clemson’s 6-1 win at No. 28 Georgia Tech (7-6, 4-3 ACC) on Friday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The Tigers (15-3) tied the second-best ACC start in school history in moving to 7-0 in league play and winning an eighth straight match overall.  The Tigers travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to play at No. 46 Boston College on Sunday at 11 a.m.  Clemson won the doubles point for the 17th time in 18 dual matches, in upping the cumulative doubles ledger to 35-6 in dual match play. After Koelzer and Dewar dropped an 8-3 decision on court two, Jessy Rompies and Yuilynn Miao improved to 10-1 together with an 8-3 win on three.  That set the stage for Koroleva and Gumulya, who broke Tech’s first service game and never looked back en route to the 8-2 win. It was their second-highest-ranked win as a duo. They defeated Georgia’s number-one ranked tandem of Garcia and Fuller in Champaign, Ill. last season during the NCAA Tournament.  Koroleva earned Clemson’s first singles point, 6-3, 6-1, on court one, keeping her a perfect 7-0 in league play. The Tigers then received straight-set wins from Miao and Gumulya to clinch. Dewar and Koelzer added three-set victories, while Rompies fell in three for Tech’s lone point. Clemson is 37-5 in ACC singles matches as a team.  Tennis Match Results Clemson vs Georgia Tech Mar 28, 2014 at Atlanta, Ga.
