No. 15 Tigers Take Saturday Match at No. 48 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The 15th-ranked women’s tennis team took a 5-2 decision over No. 48 Wake Forest on Saturday in Winston-Salem. The Tigers evened their ACC mark at 2-2, and improved to 14-5 overall, and will go on to play NC State on Sunday at 1:00 pm in Raleigh.

Clemson extended its winning streak to four, and is now 26-17 all-time against the Demon Deacons (6-8, 0-4 ACC). Clemson got on the board first with the doubles point and improved to 11-0 when taking the point.

Laurianne Henry made quick work of Brigita Bercyte and Anna Mydlowska, winning 8-1 at flight three to being doubles play.

Josipa Bek and Keri Wong, the nation’s top doubles team, got off to a slow start falling behind 3-0 to Martina Pavelec and Emilee Malvehy. But the Tiger duo couldn’t be held down for long, as they took eight of the next nine games to win, 8-4, and clinch the point.

Ryann Cutillo and Kayla Duncan defeated Masha Belaya and Caroline Magnusson at flight two in a very close match, a 9-8 (13-11) tiebreaker win at number-two doubles after the point had been decided.

In singles play, Belaya coasted past Bercyte, 6-1, 6-0 at flight six, and Magnusson won, 6-1, 6-1 over Mydlowska to win her fourth straight singles match.

Wake got two back with upset wins at two and three, but No. 12 Bek clinched the match with her 6-1, 6-4 win over 30th-ranked Martina Pavelec at the top singles spot.

Klara Vyskocilova closed scoring with a 6-4, 3-0 win, as Cutillo retired due to a foot injury.

The Tigers are now fully in to conference play as they gear up for the ACC Tournament, which takes place from April 21-24, draws nearer.
