No. 13 Volleyball Downs Virginia To Advance To Championship Finals

ORLANDO, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Clemson volleyball team defeated Virginia 3-0 in the first semifinal match of the ACC Championships on Saturday at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL. The Tigers took a 15-13, 15-9, 15-8 victory to advance to Sunday’s final match.

Senior Cindy Stern, the ACC Player of the Year, led Clemson with 26 kills, no errors and 29 attempts for a .667 attack percentage. Sophomore Jodi Steffes added 13 kills, and senior Alison Coday had 11 kills in the victory. Coday paced the team with 15 digs, while junior Heidi Cooper added 11 digs for the Tigers. Freshman setter Jessi Betcher, the ACC Rookie of the Year, had 58 assists in the win.

Senior Jessica Parsons led Virginia with 18 kills, three errors and 34 attempts for a .441 hitting percentage, while junior Deanna Zwarich added 15 kills in the win. Senior setter Mary Frances Scott, a first team All-ACC selection, recorded 41 assists in the match. Junior Katie Jones led the Cavaliers with 15 digs, and Parsons added 11 digs for the team. Junior Andrea Fischer recorded a match-high five service aces for Virginia.

With the win, Clemson improves to 31-1, while Virginia drops to 18-11. The Tigers will face the winner of the North Carolina/Wake Forest semifinal match in the finals on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
